June 27, 2002: Germany Wins Nations' Cup Competition
The
German dressage riders did not let the opportunity go
past them in the "Nations' Cup": With 5598 points they
won with the team consisting of Ann-Kathrin Linsenhoff
(Kronberg/1781 points) on Renoir Unicef, Nadine Capellmann
(Aachen/1899) on Farbenfroh, Isabell Werth (Mellendorf/1711)
on Apache and Ulla Salzgeber (Bad Wörishofen/1918) on
Rusty. The Spanish took place two (5288), and the Netherlands
place 3 (5242). The expected duel of European Champion
Ulla Salzgeber versus Nadine Capellmann, third at the
European Championships, took place at the top of the
Grand Prix' Individuals' valuation, with their competitors
not even being able to be disruptive in the decision.
Most likely Spanish Beatriz Ferrer-Salat (1818), who
is riding stronger and stronger at the moment, succeeded
in doing this. She had been third in the World Cup-final
with Beauvallais in March. A positive surprise in the
German team surely was rank 6 of Hubertus Schmidt (Borchen/1785),
who could place with nine year-old Wansuela in front
of the team-rider Linsenhoff.
Karin Rehbein (Grönwohld) could celebrate her second
victory on Cherie in the Intermédiaire I. Lisa Wilcox
(USA) on Royal Diamond, last year second in the St.
Georg had to leave the silver rank narrowly to the fourfold
Olympic Champion Isabell Werth (Mellendorf) on her youngster
Richard Kimble and had to satisfy herself with her potential
hope for Athens 2004 with the third rank. Sabine Rueben
from Würselen on Weltfürst was eighth.
