Double World Champion Rubels Passed Away

Rubels, the 2001 and 2002 World Young Dressage Horse Champion, has passed away. Rubels fractured the upper bone of his leg in an accident and after consulting several veterinarians, owner Renata Landa decided that it was in the horse's best interest to humanely put him down.

The 1996 born Rubels was bred by Henk Spekenbrink from Enter, The Netherlands. The stallion is by Rafurstinels out of Klarinettels (Amethist x Ramiro x Joost). Rubels was a licensed for the NRPS Studbook in 1999. At the licensing he was amongst the final three for the licensing champion's title.

Under Hans Peter Minderhoud, Rubels won the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden in 2001 and 2002. In 2002, he became Pavo Cup Champion and in 2002 and 2003 he won at the Zwolle International Stallion Show. Minderhoud owes his break through in the dressage world to little grey stallion

Rubels competed at a few small tour shows and was Grand Prix ready. An injury side lined the stallion for years and prevented him from truly breaking through at FEI level. In 2006 they made their come back by winning the VHO trophy in 's Hertogenosch, but after the show, the horse got injured again. Rubels was 9 years old.
