Rubels and Florencio II in Training with Hans Peter Minderhoud

March 11, 2005

RubelsRubels, the NRPS registered double World Young Horse Champion, is back in training with Hans Peter Minderhoud. The dapple grey (by Rafurstinels x Amethist) injured himself at the 2004 Dutch Dressage Championships. The licensed stallion hit himself in the pirouette and sustained a severe tendon injury.

In agreement with owner Renate Landa, Rubels recovered at his home in Belgium for 8 months. Last week, the veterinarians decided that Rubels' tendon has fully healed, so the horse is back with Hans Peter in Leur, The Netherlands.

"Of course I have in touch with Renate the past months to keep updated with Rubels' condition," Hans peter said. "She took excellent care of him and thanks to her patience and dedication, Rubels is completely fine again."

RubelsOwner Renate Landa told Dutch equestrian magazine Hoefslag, "because Rubels has been resting for so long, it will take a while to get him back to his old level. We don't want to hurry anything so I can't tell when he'll showing again."

Hans Peter Minderhoud's top horse at the moment is the World Champion Florencio. The bay Westfalian stallion is spending March and April at the stallion station in Germany where he will be treated for EVA. One of the station's riders is keeping him fit at the moment.

Florencio's stall at Minderhoud's barn is now occupied by Florencio II, Florencio's full brother who is owned by Eugene Reesink. Florencio II has a black coat but looks much like his brother. "Of course he's still very young and needs to get stronger, but he is very willing to work and super nice to handle," Hans Peter said. At the moment it is still uncertain how long Florencio II will be in training with Minderhoud.
