Jonggor's Weyden Retired From Competition
April 7, 2003
The
Olympic bronze medal winning Hanoverian Grand Prix horse
Jonggor's Weyden has been retired from competition.
Gonnelien Rothenberger-Gordijn showed the liver chestnut
stallion one last time at a Dutch national competition
last weekend. Owned by Mr Gordijn, chairman of Jonggor's
construction company and of stallion station De Ijzeren
Man in Weert, The Netherlands, Jonggor's Weyden is by
Western Star x Grande and aged 17.
Weyden's most important achievement in his competition
career was winning the individual bronze and team silver
medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta under Sven
Rothenberger. In 1997, the pair finished second in the
World Cup Finals. Gonnelien Rothenberger took over the
ride in 2000, when husband Sven suffered from severe
back problems. Gonnelien and Weyden won the 2001 Dutch
national dressage Championships and finished 14th at
the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera.
Jonggor's Weyden was the most expensive horse sold
after the 1988 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden,
Germany. Sven Rothenberger discovered Weyden in Germany
in August 1995 at a local horse show, where the stallion
was ridden by Mr Stahlecker's daughter. Weyden is licensed
for the Hanoverian, KWPN, Oldenburg and Hessian studbook
and will from now on be solely concentrated on his breeding
career at De Ijzeren Man.
