Anky van Grunsven Back In Hospital For Surgery

September 2, 2003

Anky van Grunsven is back in the hospital, but this time not because of an accident. She is having the metal plate removed which was fixed to her bone to keep it steady during the healing process. Van Grunsven fell off her horse Gestion Joker almost one year ago and had a severe thigh bone fracture. A metal fixation plate was attached to her bone in the hospital and Van Grunsven had to recover five months from the accidents. In the meantime, her partner Sjef Janssen trained her horses.

Van Grunsven was back in the saddle and competing in June, when she won the 2003 Dutch Dressage Championships. Due to an injury of her horse Gestion Salinero, Van Grunsven withdrew from the Dutch Dressage team for the 2003 European Championships. Due to the operation which is taking place today, Van Grunsven will be out again for the next couple of weeks. She hopes to be competing again in the winter.
