Grand Prix horse "Lavador" Passed Away
July 22, 2003
Former
Belgian Grand Prix champion Wim Verwimp is "suffering
slings of outrageous fortune." Four days after he competed
his first Grand Prix with his long time partner Lavador,
the horse passed away in the vet clinic after an intestinal
rupture. The bay stallion Lavador (by Nimmerdor out
of Feerina) was in training with Diederik Wigmans in
Stramproy, The Netherlands, when the horse became restless
and was transported back home. On their way back to
Belgium, Lavador colicked and was immediately hauled
to the vet clinic. He did not survive the operation.
Three years ago he was competing the Zuuthoeve stallions
at the FEI level, when a sudden rider change took place
at Stallion Station De Zuuthoeve. Verwimp had to return
to his own barn in Wiekevorst to focus once again on
young horses.
At
the 2003 Zwolle International Stallion Show he displayed
his two-year project. The AES approved stallion Lavador
showed at Prix St Georges level and finished 6th in
the consolation finals in Zwolle. In 1999, Lavador already
competed in the World Championships for Young Dressage
horses in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
At the national dressage competition in Grobbendonk
on July 6, 2003, Verwimp and Lavador finished second
with 63.54% in the Grand Prix.
