Cinderella Put Down

July 9, 2006

Australian WEG team horse Cinderella has been humanely put down on July 3, 2007. The mare suffered from cancer which had spread all over her body. It was in the horse's best interest to be euthanized.

"It was a sad end to a great dressage career, which held even more promises," the Australian Equestrian Federation reported. "Claudia Harper's mare Cinderella (by Carbid), trained and ridden by Matthew Dowsley, had enjoyed a successful campaign at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen where the pair had progressed from the Grand Prix to the Grand Prix Special, finishing 29th overall in a field of 76."

The mare had, however, suffered from recurring bouts of cancerous tumours around one of her eyes, which prevented her from participating in the 2007 World Cup Dressage Final in Las Vegas. The cancers then spread to other part of the mare's body, ending her campaign in Europe in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Our sympathy goes out to Claudia and Matthew.
