Birkhof's Oldenburg stallion Donnerprinz has been sold
to Canada. Chris von Gartzen of Northwinds Farm in Ontario,
Canada, purchased the stallion from the Casper family
in Germany. "I tried out this horse twice and really
liked him right away," Von Gartzen explained, "he
has very good ridability, is very willing to work and
has a super temperament. I was also very impressed by
his offspring. This, combined with his ridability, convinced
me to purchase him."
Donnerprinz will be going to Florida mid November,
where he will be trained and shown by his owner. Chris
Von Gartzen will move Donnerprinz back to Ontario in
the spring for the breeding season. "I bought the
horse primarily as a competitive sporthorse but will
also use him for some, very selective, breeding. However,
breeding will be secondary at this point in time."
Von Gartzen also owns the Hanoverian stallion Maurice
(by Matcho AA), but he is up for stud only to a limited
amount of mares.
Donnerprinz is a 12-year old premium Hanoverian stallion
by Donnerhall out of Agave (by Aktuell x Cardinal xx).
He did his stallion performance test at age 7 and only
started breeding three years ago. Since he was three,
Donnerprinz has been focused on dressage and he recently
had been competing at Intermediaire I level under the
German Meike Lang In 2002, Nicole Casper showed the
black at the Aachen Stallion Gala. Donnerprinz will
be the very first direct son of Donnerhall standing
at stud in Canada.
