P.S.I. Auktion
Van der Zwans and Poetin on Dutch National
Television
December 18, 2003
The stardom of Poetin and her new Dutch owners Peter
and Patty van der Zwan is rising day by day. Making
it into every
equestrian media publications right after the P.S.I.
auction, Poetin and Van der Zwan have now become a
topic on Dutch National Television. The sport program
Studio
Sport on Dutch Channel 2 did an extensive item on Poetin,
making exclusive footage at de Keizershoeve as well
as at Hof Kasselmann in Germany.
Studio Sport interviewed Peter and Patty van der Zwan
at their own breeding barn De Keizershoeve showing
superb footage
of their beautiful, brand new barn. Although Poetin's
stall was ready with her P.S.I. stall plate already
screwed to the door, the box was empty. "She's now
at Kasselmann's taking a rest from a very heavy year,
" Patty van der Zwan explained, "we will start training
her mid January and we'll see how things go. Then we
take her home."
Peter van der Zwan remained very calm and clearly
gave the impression that the purchase was made to
please his wife. "I want to help Patty with her career
as a rider by purchasing the best horse," he said.
"It is very rare for a champion to be for sale," Patty
added.
The Van der Zwans vivedly talked about their P.S.I.
experience. "It was very exciting," Patty said, "when
Poetin entered the ring people started to murmer. Everything
went so fast. It was up to a million so quickly, then
two million, and then it stopped for a while at 2,2.
When the price was set at 2,5 it took a VERY long time
for the hammer to strike, very long," Patty reminisced.
"I cried when the hammer struck. She's such a special
horse and I really wanted to have her," Mrs van der
Zwan added.
When Studio Sport was taping at Hof Kasselmann in
Germany, Poetin stood groomed and bridled in her stall.
Patty took the mare out. The interviewer asked her
how one could see she was a 2,5 million Euro horse.
"Well, she's a very beautiful mare, but only under
saddle you can see what she's worth," Patty said.
Ullrich Kasselmann spoke too in the interview. He
was asked why this horse was worth 2,5 million and
replied that, "she's a unique horse."
Peter van der Zwan stood a bit on the side and only
patted Poetin when asked by the interviewer. He affirmed
that their intention with Poetin is twofold. "We
want to use her for the sport and for breeding. Hopefully
she can produce beautiful, well moving foals." When
they were asked if the Olympics were a goal, the Van
der Zwans just smiled.
