Isabell Werth won the World Cup Grand Prix at the CDI-W Amsterdam. Aboard Warum Nicht (by Weltmeyer), the German stayed well ahead of Anky van Grunsven with a 75.744% score. Werth played it safe and won the class. Van Grunsven finished second on Painted Black (by Gribaldi) with 73.106%. Though Anky was riding on the dot, there were a few glitches in the extended trot and pirouettes. Finnish Kyra Kyrklund slotted in third with Yvette Conn's Swedish Warmblood Max (by Master).
Major surprise of the show was the retirement of Adelinde Cornelissen on Parzival. The KWPN gelding by Jazz became so spooky and tensed the his rider had to retire. The pair is not qualified to ride the Kur to Music, but will appear as guinea pig to restore the horse's confidence in the Amsterdam ring. Knowing that Parzival can be the highly sensitive horse, Adelinde was not negative about what happened. "Why should I? Confidence was gone for a moment," Cornelissen explained. "Parzival has proven enough that he can do it. This is an incident. Before it went wrong, he was really going at a fantastic level. I had the feeling we were riding our best test ever."
