Germany won the team gold medal at the 2008 European Junior Riders Championships in Azeitao, Portugal, July 17, 2008. The German Junior Riders team withstood the Dutch opression (213,700 points) with force and won the nations' cup with 2,750 percentage points advantage. Sanneke Rothenberger won the individual gold medal for winning the individual junior a riders test at the 2008 European Junior and Young Riders Championships in Azeitao, Portugal, July 19, 2008. Sanneke is the daughter of the dressage couple Sven Rothenberger (German native, Dutch passport) and Gonnelien Gordijn-Rothenberger (Dutch) and has dual citizenship. When she started her pony career, she chose to ride for Germany because the training system and pony programmes are far more developed in Germany than in The Netherlands. The Dutch Young Riders Team reigned surpreme at the 2008 European Young Riders Championships in Azeitao, Portugal, July 17, 2008. Defeating an unusually weak German young riders team, Holland took team gold with 212,800 points overall, a staggering 5,733 percentage point difference from the silver earning German team. Three of the top four places were covered by Holland's leading Young Riders. The expected winner of the individual gold medal, Lotje Schoots, fulfilled her role as anchor rider for the Dutch and scored 72,489% which made her win the class with her chestnut mare Reine B. Dutch Young Rider Lotje Schoots won the gold medal for the Individual Test at the 2008 European Young Riders Championships in Azeitao, Portugal, July 19, 2008. Aboard the Grand Prix level trained Reine B, Schoots rode the winning score of 72,300 which earned her the gold medal. She placed first with four judges, but judge Maurel saw her in seventh place with 67,750%. The French judge did not agree with his colleagues on several rides. He saw Kirsten Sieber as winner (3rd place) and Kathleen Keller as bronze medallist (10th place).
