On Saturday 9 May 2009, Bundeschampionate qualification classes took place for 5 and 6-year old dressage horses at the regional show in Duisburg-Hamborn, Germany. Three winners emerged from a huge field of competitors: Blickpunkt, Donna Belissima and Rash.
The 5-year old Dressage Horse division was split into two groups and judged by Reinhard Richenhagen, Ulrike Böckler and Ulrike Nivelle. Jana Freund and the black mare FS La Noir (by Lord Loxley x Lucito) placed second with 8.3, followed by Marion Engelen with Show Boy in third place. |
In Group 2 of the 5-year old Dressage Horses three horses were able to post a qualification score of 8.0 or higher. Jana Freund won the class aboard her own bred Donna Belissima, a Donquestador x Weltmeyer mare. The pair achieved 8.4 and beat Ulf Möller on Paul Schockemohle's licensed breeding stallion Fürst Romancier (by Fürst Heinrich x Romancier. They got 8.3 to finish second and were followed in the ranking by Erik Bültjer on Lionheart. |
There were eleven horses in the 6-year old dressage horse division and Danish Fie Skarsoe was able to ride the highest score. With Rash (by Ron William x Cordeur) Skarsoe scored 8.1 to claim victory. Manuela Gorski and the Hanoverian branded gelding Henny Hennessy (by Hofrat x Achenbach) landed second place on 8.0.

Only one pony (in both divisions) got the required 7.5 to qualify for the BuCha, and Dance Star AT (with Bianca Nowag; the pair already qualified on Olfen a couple of weeks ago) doesn't even have a Rhinelander brand |
Djaufaila (by Danny Gold) won the 6-jr-old class but also failed to qualify |
Der kleine Prints (by Don Joshi) needs to develop more muscle, but he his finally manageable enough for his owner Tatjana Hoffmann to steer him peacefully through a test |
If there was one pony among all the competitors that does belong to the BuCha, no questions asked, it was Ghost. Last year's champion (then ridden by Louisa Lüttgen) is now ridden by his owner Jessica Krieg, who only turned twelve three months ago. Despite her youth, she already displays an awesome measure of precision in the saddle, and there wasn't a single test that was nearly as effortless and graceful as the one these two presented. But. Due to an imbalance of Jessica's aids, he was uneven in both trot extensions. Instead of ringing him off, as they could have, or giving him a low mark for the trot and the stellar marks he deserved for everything else, as they should have, the judges gave him overall lukewarm marks that resulted in a 6.8 that didn't even earn him a ribbon. What a shame! |
