Italian Pony Championships
Soldatini, Elicio and Zambiati Take Medals at Italian
Pony Championships
 The
2002 Italian Pony Dressage Championships held in Cervia,
Italy, the first weekend of July produced a high score
battle between Italy's top FEI pony riders. It was an
interesting triple competition between Soldatini, Elicio
and Zambiati.
Frederica Soldatini rode top scores with her German
bred Nanu. Sired by Nadler out of Dixi by Dzenghis Khan,
Nanu is a reliable FEI pony scoring steadily in the
high 60%. Being Italy's strongest FEI combination, Soldatini
and Nanu were automatically selected for the 2002 European
Championships in Hagen, Germany. In 2001 Soldatini was
also Italy's best combination, but then aboard Ginepro
Del Colle San Marco
Finishing in second place were Diletta Elicio and Houdini.
While this pair are strong 65% scorers in Italy and
won the silver medal at the 2002 Pony Championships,
Diletta, unfortunately disappointed at the European
Championships in Hagen and scored below her average.
 Zambiati
claimed the bronze medal in the Italian pony championships
aboard Meerke's Kashmir. The 2001 Belgian Pony Champion
Kashmir got sold via this website to Italy is now one
of Italy's leading dressage ponies. At the 2002 European
Pony Championships, Zambiati was the best performing
Italian combination.
In 2001, Zambiati was still competing another formerly
Belgian FEI pony, Amedijck's Orin, (besides her third
Belgian pony Wizzard). The dapple grey gelding used
to be ridden by Gwen van Meenen and was then sold to
Italy where he competed in the 2001 Regional Championships
of Lombardia under Beatrice Zambiati. Finishing 8th
at those Championships, Beatrice went to look for a
better pony and found again in Belgium a suitable mount,
Meerke's Kashmir. Amedijk's Orin is now being competed
by her little sister Maddalena. Both Zambiati girls
are being trained by Italo Cirocchi.
FEI Pony dressage in Italy hasd never been so alive..
With more than 130 FEI ponies actively competing on
the national scene, Italy has a growing pony dressage
industry.
