Teetering on the Brink
For
a while Louise's participation at the 2000 NAYRC was
uncertain. On Monday night, 31st July 2000, Labrucherie
detected a 105° F temperature. "Picone had a slight
allergy cough when we shipped him to Colorado," Louise
said. He was immediately treated with antibiotics and
by Wednesday he was all well. Due to the rainstorm during
the team championship test, Louise's ride got cancelled
till the next day. This extra day allowed Picone for
a full recovery.
That Picone was back in shape, after being under the
clouds for two days, was very obvious in the team test.
Her absolutely flawless ride showed sheer brilliance
in the trot and canter work. The extensions in trot
were balanced, rhytmical and impulsive. However, the
right front leg sometimes reached a bit farther than
the left, making a few strides a bit awkward. It was
especially in the canter that the Prince Orac xx son
excelled. The preparation towards the pirouettes and
the pirouettes themselves were very well, but impulsion
in the first one to the left got lost at the end. Labrucherie's
17.0 hands high mount walked with big strides, stretching
his complete body from neck to toe. The pair scored
68.564% and easily settled for first place. In the individual
test Labrucherie dominated equally and with a 67.053%
final mark.
