2000 Bundeschampionate
German Young Horse Championships

An Introduction

For the 7th consecutive time the German Federal championships of the German Riding, Dressage, Jumping, Eventing an Driving Horse as well as the German Riding, Dressage and Jumping Pony will be held in Warendorf from 31. August to 3rd September 2000. Last year more than 30,000 spectators came to the generous premises of the German Equestrian Olympic Comittee (DOKR/- German Performance Training Centre-BLZ) to witness the exciting decisions. 800 of the best up-and-coming young horses and ponies in Germany compete each year for the individual titles.

Just what a successful synthesis of breeding and sport the German Federal Championships represented is proved, for example, by the horse which was placed second at the first Federal Championships of the German Riding Horse in 1976: the Westphalian Angelo xx son Ahlerich who in later years - unter Reiner Klimke - established a firm place in the history of German dressage sport as many times European Champion, World Champion and Olympic Winner. The first Federal Champion of the German Cross Country held in 1987 was Sundance Kid who became team bronze medal winner under Marina Loheit at the 1991 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm.

Other very successful horses in international sport also began their careers at the German Federal Championships: Dressage: LRF Walk On Top, Don Primero, Antony FRH, Garcon, Rohdiamant, Caprimond, Donnersberg, Saint Cloud. Jumping: Rosella G, Carthargo, San Patrignano Cassini, Apricot D, San Patrignano Weihaiwej. Eventing: White Girl.
