What's
Happening in the Dressage World?
July 1998
Mary Phelps and JJ Hathaway are in Europe -
Yippee. Waiting for Euro partner Astrid Appels to complete
her final examinations as a sophomore at the university
of Brussels, Mary and JJ chose to mellow out in Cannes,
France, by looking at the international Pulsar Crown
jumping and by going to the beach. Of course on their
arrival, Phelps and Hathaway indulged themselves on
a fine selection of Alsatian wine bottles from cuvée
Julian Appels while staying in Mol, Belgium, for one
day on their way to France.
Now to equestrian news. Coby van Baalen has some bad
luck, her newly licensed and performance tested KWPN
stallion Heruto proved to be infertile. The
dark bay stallion by Doruto with the flashy blaze is
back home in Brakel, The Netherlands. Heruto was bred
to 30 mares but all of them were not in foal. This made
the Van Baalen sent a sample of Heruto's sperm to a
veterinarian laboratory which announced the bad news.
Shouldn't the KWPN studbook perform such in depth sperm
tests before approving stallions?
The Dutch Equestrian Federation announced some very strong enforcement riders for their young horse team in Arnhem. Reserve 5 year old champion of last yearn Gestion Ictenos (by Sir Chamberlaine), will be a contestant for the title in the six year old class. Ictenos is a German (!) bred Trakehner. More power from the Dutch can be expected from Marlies van Baalen on the German (!) bred Roman Nature (Rohdiamant x Ehrentusch) in the five year old class.
Very nice site to visit for Dutch language speakers is the Champion Arnhem
site on which Belgian GP rider Stefan van Ingelgem
confesses he would like to spend a night out with
Julia Roberts, while Arjen Teeuwissen wishes to meet
Tina Turner. Did you know that British Richard Davison
would opt for a career in skiing besides horse riding?

Oldenburg breeder and Danish equestrian reporter Thomas
Bach Jensen was so kind to inform as that not Robbespiere
but Royal Jubilee was the most expensive Rubinstein
I get sold at the auction in Vechta. Royal Jubilee
is an exceptional mare by Rubinstein I out of Wendy
Macohl (by Weltstar) and was sold for the nice sum of
380.000 DM spring 1999.
Somewhere in the galaxy, far far away, a three star
CDI was ridden. We are referring to the CDI Brisbane,
Australia. Some - sometimes- exceptional dressage coverage
is done by our web partners and publishers of the Horse
Magazine, Chris Hector and Roz Neave. Don't forget
to regularly take a peak at their site. For instance,
see the results of the CDI Brisbane and get acquainted
with for us, very unfamiliar faces, but with some famous
horses like for instance Ikaros, a chestnut Grand Prix
horse imported into Australia through "down under" specialized
agent Stefan van Ingelgem.
