Three Weeks Off for Salinero due to Minor Injury

April 16, 2010

Anky van Grunsven's double Olympic gold medal winning horse, Salinero, has injured his withers and will not be ridden the next few weeks. Van Grunsven released the news of this minor injury on her website.

The 16-year old Hanoverian gelding (by Salieri x Lungau) most likely got cast in his stall at night because in the morning he had a swelling on one side of his withers. The veterinarian diagnosed that the capsule around the protrusions of the withers' vertebrae is damaged.

"It is nothing really serious, but because I can't put a saddle on now, I won't be able to ride Salinero for the next three weeks," said Van Grunsven.
