Joyce Lenaerts' Katell Passed Away

May 4, 2009

KatellJoyce Lenaert's long time dressage partner Katell has passed away after a colic attack on Sunday May 3, 2009. The 17-year old Dutch warmblood gelding suffered from colic on Sunday morning May 3 at the national show in Kootwijk, The Netherlands.

Lenaerts and Katell were scheduled to compete in Kootwijk but upon arrival at the show, the black gelding became colicky and started rolling in his box. The vet immediately came to assist but his condition deteriorated in the afternoon. He was then transported to the equine clinic but passed away round midnight.

Katell was by Rubinstein x Purioso. He has been owned by Lenaerts for fifteen years and was her ride to fame. She successfully rode at international young riders level in the early 2000s and then stuck to small tour level competition in the senior division for the rest of his career. The last ribbons and trophies he won were at the Sunshine Tour and the Vierzon and Pompadour shows in France.
