Gentile Passed Away
January 9, 2007
Dominique Filion's successful junior riders horse Gentile has passed away. The chestnut Dutch warmblood gelding by Saros xx suffered from a severe colic attack and had to be put down.
"The past few years, Gentile enjoyed his retirment in the field at my grandparents' place," Filion told the Dutch equestrian magazine De Hoefslag. "He was accompanied by my other former top horse Montreal. It was a pleasant sight to see those two oldies together. Right after New Year, Gentile got colic. I was on holiday in Dubai so I wasn't there. Even though the vet tried everything, Gentile could not be saved. It is always difficult when a horse dies with whom you had such a good bond. But I am at peace with it. He was already twenty and had a good life."
Under Filion, Gentile was twice part of the Dutch junior riders team. They won team silver and team bronze at the 1999 and 2002 European Junior Riders Championships. In 2002, they also finished third at the Dutch Dressage Championships.
