Abscess Sidelines Madorijke

March 30, 2005

An abscess underneath one of her molars has sidelined Dutch Grand Prix mare Punto Blanko's Madorijke. The bay KWPN branded mare by Contango x Voltaire has been suffering from this mouth infection since a couple of weeks, which could explain the mediocre performances at the CDI-W Amsterdam and 's Hertogenbosch. Owner and rider Madeleine Vrees decided to resolve this ongoing problem by having her horse operated on.

"I noticed there was a problem for a while. She was just not very fit and she was grumpy in her stall," Vrees told Dutch journalist Karin de Haan. "It's an old 'injury' because two years ago she was already having problems with that same molar."

The abscess will be removed in an operation and if all goes well, Madorijke can put the bridle back on in four weeks.
