Intestinal Problems for Idocus in Denmark
February 10, 2003
What
could have been Marlies van Baalen's first World Cup
Victory, turned out into a disappointment. Scoring 69,
40% in the Grand Prix at the CDI-W Aarhus in Vilhemsborg,
Denmark, Marlies van Baalen and her KWPN licensed stallion
Idocus finished second behind Heike Kemmer with only
a 0.04% point difference. Van Baalen never came so close
to a victory in a world cup qualifier.
Hopes were high for the Grand Prix freestyle in Vilhelmsborg,
but in the morning of February 9, Idocus was detected
in his stall with a temperature and diarrhea. "I
just walked him and had put him back in the stall when
my groom called me," Marlies van Baalen said. "We
called the vet immediately and he treated him".
By noon, the stallion was fine again, but riding the
freestyle was out of the question. "I'm happy that
he's doing fine again, that's the most important thing."
Marlies van Baalen is currently in 8th position in
the World Cup Ranking for the Western European League.
