1998 German Young Dressage Horse Championships

Wahajama and Holga FinkenIn the weekend of 4th till 6th September, the German Olympic Committee for  Equestrian sports (DOKR) opened its premises in Warendorf to host the 1998 German Championships for Young Dressage and Showjumping Horses. This festivity is one of the most important German shows, where future champions can be found. A large amount of the competing horses will switch owners right after the championships. Potential buyers gather here to follow the movements, character and rideability of their favorite youngster. But also the actual owners are sitting there with pride to see how their horse got through the tough selection procedures and how they were able to compete in these finals. During the year several qualifiers were to be ridden before a combination could start at this championship. Only the best of the best are allowed to come to Warendorf! The whole championship is, according to age, divided into speciall classes for stallions, for mares and geldings, for ponies and horses, for showjumpers, dressage horses and three day eventing youngsters. The winning horses of each class not only receive nice ribbons and a wreath of laurels, but also get world wide recognition of quality and potential. Some of the winning  horses will be/were sold in the Elite Auctions of the Hanoverian, Westphalian and Oldenburger verband. Their selling value is as dazzling as their achievements. Wahajama, last year's top auction horse (sold for $300.000) won the four year old mare class this year . Lord Sinclair (sold for $1.600.00) won the four year old stallion class, and also Richard Kimble (sold at the Oldengburger auction in Vechta) became Reserve Champion  under Isabelle Werth in the 4 year old gelding class. These champions will be future Olympic horses, watch out for them!
