Douglas Dorsey Retired

March 26, 2008

Britain’s top-ranked rider Laura Bechtolsheimer has retired her 17-year-old grand prix ride Douglas Dorsey from international competition.

Laura’s father started competing the 17.2hh German-bred gelding by Donnerhall in 2000 and Laura took over the ride in 2004. After only riding him a couple of weeks, Laura won team bronze at the European Young Rider Championships. Apart from numerous wins at international level, they became national championships in 2005 and represented Britain at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.

“He is fit and healthy, but is not that motivated in the ring any more. He put my name on the map at international senior level and has done me a huge service. He will carry on being worked at home and we will be doing a music demo at Burghley, which I think he will really enjoy,” said Laura.
