Holger E. Sørensen Passed Away
November 13, 2008
Ridehesten posted the sad news that Danish dressage rider Holger Engsig Sørensen passed away on November 11, 2008. The 51-year old rider lost his battle with cancer, which he had been fighting with great mental and fysical strength.
With Holger's passing, the Danish dressage world lost a valuable rider and person. He was rider at the Hjørring riding club, at which he work as long as his illness allowed it. Though he was diagnosed with cancer already in 2007, Holger continued to ride as long as possible. His last big success was aboard the super talented Danish warmblood gelding Handsome (by Hertug x Schwedengruss) which he showed at the 2007 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, Germany. Thanks to the help of his partner Helle Nielsen, Sorensen was able to ride Handsome in the 2007 WCYH Finals.
In April 2008, Sorensen went on vacation for the last time to visit country mate Lars Petersen (who bred Handsome) in the United States. Holger will be greatly missed.
