Poetin Passed Away

December 14, 2005

Poetin at the Auction in The NetherlandsThe sensational success story of Poetin has, unfortunately, come to a tragic end. On Monday evening December 12, 2005, Poetin passed away in her stable at Mr. Marie's Haras de Hus in France. The mare was humanely put down.

"We had to put her to sleep, she has been suffering for three months," Françoise Zumkehr told Eurodressage. "We don't know the reason of her pain and we are conducting an autopsy to find out. It is too difficult for us at the moment to give any clear information [on what went wrong]," Zumkehr added.

The double Bundeschampion and World Champion Poetin sold at the PSI Auction in 2003 for 2,500,000 euro to Peter van der Zwan in The Netherlands. Following an executorial auction of Van der Zwan's Keyzershoeve, Poetin sold again, this time for 900,000 euro to Mr Marie in France. The Brandenburg bred mare by Sandro Hit x Brentano II, was insured by Marie. "We are currently looking into that," Zumkehr stated.
