Askari
Goes USA
Richard
Davison's Olympic ride Hiscox Askari, who "retired"
from international dressage in a ceremony at Hickstead,
has a high-profile new home lined up in the USA. Askari,
14, is going to Jane Clark, whose stable has included
1996 Olympic team silver medal show jumper Extreme and
Robert Dover's 2000 Olympic team bronze medal dressage
mount, Rainier.
Due to arrive
this week, Askari will initially go to Mr Dover's Long
Island, New York yard and then south to Florida where
his new owner spends much of the winter. Former president
of the American Horse Shows Association, Mrs Clark said
she has no immediate plans to compete Askari.
"I'm saying
no now, but if I ever decide to do it, he'd be a lovely
horse to do it on. Nothing I could do would surprise
him."
Mrs Clark
is looking forward to making Askari a member of her
equine family, which also includes Jimmy Fairclough's
four-in-hand horses and several jumpers ridden by Leslie
Burr Howard and Molly Ashe.
"I plan
on spoiling him," said Mrs Clark. "I'm a very indulgent
mother."
