Goffert Passed Away

February 14, 2007

GoffertThe Friesian Grand Prix stallion Goffert passed away on February 13, 2007, following a colic attack. The black stallion was rushed to the equine hospital for an operation but could not be saved. He was humanely put down.

" 'Herbie' was a very special horse in every way. He was not only an unforgettable Grand Prix performer and sire of champions, but also a real superstar. In Holland he was treated with respect and great admiration. He was one of a kind and we feel blessed for the time we had with him," said Iron Spring Farm's Mary Alice Malone.

The 13-year old Goffert was by Reitse out of Nynke (Cobus x Ritske) and was owned by the American Iron Spring Farm in Coatesville, PA. He completed his stallion performance test in 1997 and was sold to Iron Spring Farm in 2002.

Under Belinda Nairn-Wertman, Goffert was the first Friesian to compete at Grand Prix level internationally. Goffert placed 4th in the prestigious Grand Prix Freestyle at CDI Devon and was the 2006 Breyer Friesian Horse of the Year Model.
