January 27, 2009
The Swedish Warmblood stallion Master 850 has been proclaimed Stallion of the Year by the Swedish Breeding Promotion Society ASVHE. Master is ranked seventh on the 2008 World Breeding Ranking for dressage and has sired FEI high ranked Grand Prix dressage horses Max (under Kyra Kyrklund), Tip Top (under Leslie Morse), Vivo (under Maria von Essen) and Master Mind (under Nathalie Zu Saeyn-Wittgenstein).
Master (by Ceylon x Iran x Sombrero) was born in 1988 and bred by Poul-Erik Lang. Under Kyra Kyrklund, the stallion built up an impressive performance record. He won the Swedish championships both as a 5 and 6 year old. He was unbeaten nationally and internationally at all levels up to and including Intermediare I. He won the World Cup qualifier in Aarhus, Denmark in 1997. His personal best performance was finishing sixth at the 1998 World Cup Finals. Master's show career ended when he got injured while covering.
Master's offspring is proving its worth by scoring at the highest level in dressage. At the 2008 CDI Wiesbaden, three of fifteen horses competing in the Kur to Music were sired by this stallion. Kyra Kyrklund's Max (by Master x Alpenfurst) was the highest placed Swedish warmblood at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Master became an elite stallion in 2006 and has numerous licensed offspring. His youngest lget continues to excel world wide. His licensed son Impuls competed at the 2008 World Young Horse Dressage Championships while the mare Yantuge, winner of the Swedish 6-year old championship, is by Hertug out of a Master dam.
Master is standing at stud at West Kington Stud in Great Britain. "I am always on the look-out for new Master talent. It will be very exciting with all the foals born in the UK this year. Master passes on the same presence in the arena, as he had himself. My six year old, Money, is showing great potential and I have a feeling he is going to be like Master and Max, focused and cooperative in the big competition arenas,” Kyrklund said.
