Germany's Favourite Sire "Rubinstein I" passed away
Germany's
most respected dressage sire Rubinstein I passed away.
After being submitted to two severe operations caused
by "Hodenbruch", a testicle 'fracture', Rubinstein I
foundered on four legs due to a kidney malfunction.
In first instance the stallion seemed to be on the better
hand, but his condition worsened quickly in a few days
time. He corssed the rainbow bridge on June 5, 2000.
Rubinstein, by the late Rosenkavalier out of Antine
(by Angelo xx), was registered as a Westphalian but
bred mainly for the Oldenburg studbook. Bred by Herbert
de Baey, Rubinstein I descends from the same farm as
Olympic champions Rembrandt. Antine was also dam to
Annemarie Sanders Keyser's Dutch Olympic team mount
Amon and she is the full sisters to Dr Reiner Klimke's
Ahlerich. In 1989 Rubinstein was performance tested
at Adelheidsdorf, gaining 136 points which placed him
third overall. One year later he won the famous Oldenburg
breed show in Radstate, Germany. Trained and shown by
Martina Hannover, the black moved on to a successful
dressage career with a reserve championship title as
a six year old at the German Federal Championships for
Young dressage horses in Warendorf. In 1993 Rubinstein
was decorated with 10 Prix St Georges victories, one
year later he won the Grand Prix 9 times. In 1998 former
double Olympic champion took Nicole Uphoff took over
the reins from Martina Hannover. Uphoff was able to
push his scores up to 70% and the pair got submitted
to the German Olympic long list.
1999 statistics show that Rubinstein I sired 78 State
Premium Mares and is sire to more than 63 approved sons
of which Rohdiamant, Rosier, Regazzoni, Iglesias, Raggazo,
Royal Diamond and Rubin Star I and II are only a few.
The performances of his get placed him 4th on the dressage
index for older stallions. Especially Renommee, the
1997 World Young Dressage Horse Champion, Rubioso N,
Ellen Bontje's award winning PSG mount, and Nicole Uphoff's
Relevant contributed an important part to this high
rank on the index. Rubinstein was multiple sire to many
high-priced auction horses in Vechta and Verden with
Royal Jubilee (380.000 DM) and Robbespiere (350.000
DM) as the highlights. Rubinstein was 14 years old.
