Donnerwetter Passed Away
February 22, 2003
On
Tuesday morning, February 17th, 2003, the great Hanoverian
stallion Donnerwetter passed away. Donnewetter passed
away quietly while waiting patiently for his stall to
be cleaned. Donnerwetter resided in the United States
with his owners and wonderful caretakers, Winsome Farm.
No stallion in the world has been given a greater retirement
than this extraordinary horse. Loved and cherished by
his last rider Susanne Erickson, Donnewetter lived his
last years on a very private farm cared for like the
great champion he was.
The Hanoverian bred stallion was by Disput x Matador
and was trained at Grand Prix level. He made his name
on the international dressage scene with Belgian rider
Decia de Pauw and from 1989 onwards under Herbert Rehbein.
In 1990 Gronwoldhof sold Donnerwetter to Windsome Farm
in Virginia, USA, where he was up for stud to a select
group of mares until his death. Donnerwetter has five
licensed sons and five registered State Premium Mares.
Although Donnerwetter was a superb stallion himself,
he was somewhat overshadowed by his illustrius son Donnerhall,
whose legendary greatness partly on to his sire.
