Santa Cruz is by the Oldenburg stallion Sandro Hit (by Sandro Song) who won the 1999 World Young Horse Championships and Bundeschampionate. Sandro Hit is currently one of the most successful breeding stallions in Germany consistently producing top sport horses.

Santa Cruz' dam sire is the Holsteiner Calypso II, who was one of 5 stallions, full brothers, produced by crossing Cor de la Bruyere with Tabelle (Heissporn x Lorentin). Calypso II was a fabulous mover and a good jumper. He had an extremely good temperament and he passed the movement, the jumping ability and the temperament along to all his offspring. The Calypso II line is known for its exceptional rideability.
